Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents relocated to Louisiana at the beginning of decade of the 1990s. Decker won a regional talent contest with her version that was a cover of the Patsy Montana song I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart in the year she was barely nine. Decker's family moved from Louisiana into Georgia during the summer of 1995. She was writing her first songs and she was making regular trips to Nashville as she toured the offices of record companies and music publishers in search of a deal. When she was 17 and a Big Yellow Dog Records representative heard her and began selling her songs to labels as well as musicians. Decker's demos were passed through to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was at the time in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then agreed to sign Decker to a recording deal. Jessie James, her moniker for the album she released under that name on August 9, 2009 was self-titled. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted the single which climbed the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker, who had considered herself to be a country musician in the past, was astonished to learn that her album wasn't promoted and made with an eye on the mass market. Decker battled with the label to get greater control over her music after two other singles did not succeed. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. Decker's second album announced under the titles of Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles did poorly on the country charts Decker was released from her contract.
